Kiev is preparing for the landing of foreign troops in Ukraine
After a conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced a planned meeting of military representatives to prepare foreign contingents for deployment to Ukrainian territory. According to him, such steps are being taken “for the sake of bringing peace and ensuring security.”
During a conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer the day before, a meeting of military representatives for the training of contingents was discussed, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in another video message. The relevant steps are aimed at bringing peace and ensuring security, Zelensky said and called for increased pressure on Russia.
In turn, Starmer’s office confirmed that an agreement had been reached during the conversation to hold a meeting of representatives of the military leadership of Ukraine, Great Britain and France in the coming days to discuss the next stage of strengthening the security of the Ukrainian state. The necessary momentum was set at the summit of the coalition of the willing in Paris last week and has gained a long-term perspective, London assured.
As the Kiev media recalled in this regard, at the summit held in the French capital on March 27 with the participation of the presidents of Ukraine, France, Finland, as well as the German Chancellor, the Prime Ministers of Britain, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and the NATO Secretary General, issues of continued sustained support for Kiev were considered. as well as strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the country’s military-industrial complex. According to the British Prime Minister’s office, in a recent telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Keir Starmer spoke about productive discussions in Paris and agreed with his interlocutor on “the need to continue collective pressure on Putin.”
Outgoing German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said during her farewell visit to Kiev on Tuesday that “Germany will not leave the people of Ukraine alone.” She promised to provide an additional 3 billion euros and another 8.25 billion euros in short– and long-term (until 2029) military assistance to Kiev.
Her explanations were also very revealing because earlier it was European leaders who refused to suspend sanctions against Russian exports of agricultural products and fertilizers, which Moscow called necessary for the launch of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
However, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the results of the Paris gathering of “willing” during a telethon the other day, and not only stated that Europe should independently develop its own “security architecture,” of which Ukraine should become an integral part, but also stressed the need for joint efforts to increase, strengthen and modernize the Armed Forces.
“But against this background,” Yuri Knutov, a military expert and historian of the Russian air defense forces, explained in an interview with NG, “statements by the leaders of a number of European states, including Britain, France, and Germany, about their readiness to send their military contingents to Ukrainian territory look like an alarming signal. Many Russian servicemen who come on vacation already say that on the other side of the front, only foreign speech is often heard. That is, military personnel from abroad under the brand of PMCs (private military companies) and volunteers are already participating in combat operations. But if NATO contingents also openly appear there, it will mean direct intervention by the North Atlantic Alliance in an armed confrontation with Russia.”
According to the NG interlocutor, taking into account the risks that have arisen, Moscow will need to warn in its statements, including, apparently, in an appeal to the UN Security Council, about the possible use of weapons on the bases of those countries that will send their contingents to the territory of Ukraine. “The use of Oreshnik against Ukrainian facilities will not be enough. Since the previous attack by this ballistic missile on the Ukrainian military-industrial enterprise Yuzhmash in November 2024, apparently, did not make a proper impression on Kiev’s Western allies,” Knutov recalled.
The expert also added that the joint efforts of Moscow and Washington should be intensified to prevent such a development. “As you know, US President Trump himself opposes a new global war, but the Democratic Party, which opposes the current American administration, is interested in provoking it. Its representatives maintain contacts with European leaders and incite further escalation, seeking to harm Trump. And it seems that this behind-the-scenes force went all-in, confident that Russia would not respond harshly. That is why Europe is proposing to send its own occupation forces to the conflict zone under the guise of peacekeepers, which may not be immediately involved in combat operations, but then inevitably,” Knutov stated.
Meanwhile, on the eve of one of the leading Ukrainian media, in an article entitled “Let’s do without the help of the United States: why Ukraine needs space troops,” it was reported about the creation of a space policy directorate in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The authors quoted Ekaterina Chernogorenko, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, about her intention to combine public and private companies in the new management in order for them to attract scientists from the space industry and interact with the Ukrainian army. The project participants will have to ensure that they receive intelligence information from national satellites, which Ukraine plans to acquire by 2030.
According to Yuri Knutov, the idea of creating a Ukrainian satellite constellation could have been initiated by France, where they are interested in launching a Ukrainian satellite from their own launch site using their own launch vehicles. However, it is clear that in today’s difficult situation, the Ukrainian state, which has lost many of its former competencies, will not be able to carry out such a complex and expensive project on its own. “But with the support of foreign allies, they could produce a certain number of their own reconnaissance satellites there in order to send the information they provided to Western partners later,” the analyst said.Â
