Lukashenko is ready to stand next to Trump
On Wednesday, the premiere of a high-profile interview that Alexander Lukashenko gave to a well-known American blogger took place. There were many resonant statements about Prigozhin’s rebellion, prospects for peace in Ukraine, and personal relations with Zelensky. But the main thing in it is the desire to convey to Donald Trump the message that they are like–minded people. Moreover, the Belarusian authorities declare not only emotional support for the “revolution of common sense” launched by the US president, but also conceptual support.
On Wednesday, at 10.00 a.m., the First Information Channel of the Belarusian Television showed an interview that Alexander Lukashenko gave to the American blogger Mario Naufal. Their meeting took place last Thursday. And even then, judging by the individual quotes that became public, it became clear that the conversation turned out to be intense. And so it turned out – fragments of the interview immediately scattered across the news agency feeds.
Lukashenko certainly knows how to attract attention with exclusive details. For example, who would have thought that the actions of the President of Belarus were highly appreciated by the CIA? It turns out that it was. “My actions were evaluated by the West, among other things, which surprised me. Even the CIA, MI6, and other intelligence agencies appreciated this very much. Why? It is not customary to talk about this publicly. But the West noticed it, and I felt it then, too, but when the process had already begun: Zhenya Prigozhin (head of the Wagner Private Security Company. – “NG”) was rushing to the nuclear button. And Westerners assumed that at that time he could overthrow the existing government and seize nuclear weapons. That’s why you didn’t publicly thank me,” Lukashenko confessed.
But these sensational details are still not the main thing in the interview. And his leitmotif is a message to Donald Trump.
“After everything that happened in the United States, supporting Trump publicly, I didn’t think he would win. And when he won, I said bluntly that he went through the United States of America like a bulldozer and won. Unbelievable! He is an incredible man. And an incredible thing happened. The fact that he was almost shot, he’s right – God probably saved him. But if the Lord saved him, then he saved him for something. And not only many people on our planet, but the Lord also sees what you are doing in the United States now and evaluates it,” Lukashenko said with undisguised enthusiasm to a blogger who is considered close to Elon Musk. Such recognition of Donald Trump’s election is, of course, worth a lot.
The President stated that the global situation, including relations between the United States and Russia, had begun to change rapidly. “No one could have guessed. But one person who dared to do this, Donald Trump, turned the situation upside down very quickly. Let’s hope so,” Lukashenko said. Moreover, he stressed that he was “ready to stand by” the US president in his peacekeeping efforts. And I am ready to provide a platform in Minsk for negotiations.
In addition, the head of Belarus would be happy to share his personal experience with the American leader and warn against mistakes. “I jokingly say: there, in America, I am missed. I would tell Trump straight to his face how not to do it. There are too many statements that shouldn’t have been made at all.… We need to cool off after the elections. And it is necessary to take steps in the interests of the voters of the United States, first of all, and, secondly, of the entire world community. You don’t have much time to prove to the American public that you are capable of something. If you don’t do this, the Republicans will suffer a severe defeat in the next elections,” the wise Belarusian president warned.
He is ready to give advice to Trump on the subject of relations with Vladimir Zelensky, and even on policy towards China.
It should be noted that Lukashenko is not the only one sending signals of support for Trump’s course. The Belarusian authorities have already stated from a high international rostrum that they share the principles of the “revolution of common sense” proclaimed by Trump.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov recently stated at a session of the UN Human Rights Council: “When they finally realize in the West that human rights are a platform for dialogue and cooperation, not confrontation. That there is no universal model for the realization of human rights.” And he announced the initiative “to conduct a global reset in the field of human rights.”
Trump’s “revolutionary nature” is seen, in particular, in the fact that his administration demonstrates a commitment to rejecting the universalist approach to human rights typical of American Democrats. It was this approach that prevented the establishment of a dialogue with forces in the world that did not meet this single standard. The President of Belarus has clearly noticed that there is a reassessment of values in US politics, and is trying to make it clear that he obviously shares these new approaches.
Lukashenko’s opponents, however, see what is happening as a positive for themselves. Political analyst Alexander Klaskowski notes on one of the opposition resources: “Trump doesn’t seem particularly concerned about the issue of political prisoners in authoritarian states, but he wants to fulfill his promise to get his compatriots out of foreign prisons.” In this regard, he recommends to the opposition: “It is important for the democratic forces of Belarus, which trump their strategic dialogue with the United States, to push Washington to ensure that the process affects as many political prisoners as possible. There are no illusions about the humanity of the regime, but it would be wise to make the most of the moment when Lukashenko is trying to cook porridge with Trump.”
